Aspiring Middle Leaders Programme

For Teachers who have been teaching 4/5 years and who are not yet in a leadership post.  They should be pre-threshold.

The Programme is designed to build on and complement existing leadership development opportunities:
·  provide an analysis of strengths and expertise
·  develop skills, broaden knowledge and deepen understanding to support leadership in a challenging context
·  ensure participants are capable of system thinking and acting, with the confidence to take responsibility for their own actions
· 
nurture leadership qualities to secure more adaptable and flexible leaders
·  support interdependent leadership

Accelerate to Headship

This ground-breaking programme is for talented and ambitious individuals who are determined to become headteachers in as little as four years. 
There are two pathways through the programme.
Tomorrow's Heads
Tomorrow's Heads is for teachers and non-teaching professionals who are determined to become a headteacher in a primary, secondary or special school in England.
Future Leaders
Future Leaders is targeted at current or former teachers who wish to lead a challenging urban secondary school in London, the North West, the West Midlands, Yorkshire and the Humber, Bristol, or the South Coast.
Is the programme for you?
Accelerate to Headship is open to you if you’re:
·  a teacher without leadership experience but with a lot of drive, energy and the potential to become an outstanding school leader
·  a former teacher looking to come back to school after a period developing your career in other management or leadership roles
·  a non-teaching professional with strong leadership or management experience, the ability to learn quickly and a commitment to making a difference.

Middle Leaders

Available to a wide range of middle leaders in subject-based and pastoral roles and with different levels of experience.

Certificate of School Business Management

The Certificate of School Business Management (CSBM) provides school business managers (SBMs) with the expertise required to perform the role to the best of their ability, and ultimately improve school effectiveness.
It is a world-leading programme that supports school leadership and management by developing a range of different learning techniques.Key facts
·  The programme focuses on the role of the SBM and covers facilities management, risk management, financial management, office systems management, ICT management, human resource management and sustainable development.
·  CSBM has a broad equivalence to national qualifications framework (NQF) level 4; i.e. the first year of a first degree and is externally accredited by the Institute of Administrative Management (IAM).
CSBM is now accessible to people with alternative professional backgrounds such as industry and other public sector organisations.

Senior Leaders

Leadership Pathways offers senior school leaders practical access to the latest in leadership thinking and school practice, which will benefit their schools as well as them as individuals.

The programme seeks to build on experience that participants have developed in middle leadership and via National College programmes such as Leading from the Middle. It can also help support those aspiring to take part in the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH).

Enhancing the Role of the Deputy Headteacher

For Deputy Headteachers and Assistant Heads. Newly appointed Deputy Headteachers and those senior teachers aspiring to a Deputy post are very welcome.

To consider and review the roles, responsibilities and professional relationships of  the deputy Headteacher in terms of adding value to the senior leadership of the school.
HT and DHT Partnership- developing the professional relationships between HT and DHT- how to maximise the skills and styles of people in both roles as team leaders.
To consider the impact and influence of this key role on the school context, evaluate the current effectiveness and analyse future potential.

NPQH Graduates – Coaching Day

This is an extremely interactive programme, giving you the chance to address some of your leadership issues and to consider different leadership models. Working in pairs and small groups, experienced leadership facilitators will guide you through a series of assessment tools and frameworks. This will develop insight into your leadership potential, and how to create strategies for turning these insights into action.

Avoiding the Pitfalls – Application and Interviews

Associate Heads Programme

Deputy headteachers from either phase (including those from special schools) who are NPQH graduates and are likely to be ready to step up to headship in 12-18 months time.

The programme is based around an internship/placement for experienced deputies (or those with equivalent experience) that have the potential to lead challenging schools.  The associates undertake a part-time or full-time placement across a school year in a school in a challenging context which through strong leadership is on an upward trajectory of improvement.  They work alongside the headteacher and gain valuable first-hand experience of headship in this context.

The Diploma of School Business Management (DSBM) is for the school business manager (SBM) who is working as a member of or closely with the senior leadership team (SLT). It focuses on the role that the SBM can play in determining the strategic direction of their school. DSBM is a world-leading programme that supports school leadership. It is designed to develop knowledge and understanding to enable participants to explore and develop their own management and leadership capabilities.
Key facts
·   The programme is designed at a level higher than the Certificate of School Business Management (CSBM).
·   It has a broad equivalence to National Qualifications Framework (NQF) level 5; i.e. the second year of a first degree and is externally accredited by the Institute of Administrative Management (IAM).
DSBM is accessible to people with alternative professional backgrounds such as industry and other public sector organisations.

Advanced Diploma of School Business Managers

The Advanced Diploma of School Business Management (ADSBM) supports the professional learning of experienced school business managers (SBMs). It is offered as part of the National College’s suite of school business management programmes and builds on the already very successful Certificate of School Business Management (CSBM) and Diploma of School Business Management (DSBM). The advanced diploma will help school business managers to make enhanced contributions in increasingly complex organisational settings.
Key facts
·   ADSBM enables participants to extend their knowledge and understanding of the changing school business manager's role within the context of global economic and social trends, national education and welfare policies, and local developments in the organisation and delivery of services to children and young people.
·    Participants will also improve their research skills to understand the school as an organisation and critically evaluate its adaptation to the changing educational environment of the 21st century.
·    Professional skills developed include: performance management, programme management, strategic financial management, organisational transformation and change management.

Head Start

Head Start is a professional development programme for new headteachers, providing a seamless transition from the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH) into early headship. It replaces the Early Headship Provision (including New Visions and the current flexible grant) from April 2010. The programme includes an entitlement to support from an experienced serving headteacher (professional partner), together with a range of high-quality, contextualised learning materials and local opportunities.
Head Start will support new headteachers in becoming highly effective in their roles through increasing their leadership skills and confidence, while encouraging learning, self-reflection and development.
Key facts
·    From April 2010, Head Start replaces the Early Headship Provision, which offered new headteachers a £1,300 flexible grant and access to the New Visions development programme.
·    NPQH graduates will be given access to a suite of materials, including an online community and networking tools, learning modules exploring headship in different contexts, and guidance on finding and securing a headship.
Newly-appointed headteachers will be entitled to a further range of materials including an additional online community, tailored online courses, as well as 20–30 hours’ mentoring support from an experienced, practising headteacher during their designate stage and in their first two years of headship. This support will include face-to-face meetings and telephone/email communications.
