British Council The purpose of the British Council is to build mutually beneficial relationships between people in the UK and other countries and to increase appreciation of the UK's creative ideas and achievements. Teachers' International Professional Development The TIPD programme enables teachers from England to experience good educational practice in different countries around the world. The programme is funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) and the Department for International Development (DFID). In part-delivering the programme the British Council works closely with overseas partners, and with Local Authorities (LAs) and schools, to ensure that benefits are mutual and that positive teaching and learning outcomes are effectively shared. To find out more visit the TIPD website. LECT (League for the Exchange of Commonwealth Teachers) LECT connects teachers and educators throughout the Commonwealth. They promote excellence in education through developing, supporting and promoting: To find out more visit the LECT website. Comenius Comenius targets schools and further education establishments. This Socrates action is made up of three broad types of activity, all of which provide opportunities for schools and colleges to introduce or strengthen the European dimension in their curriculum. Comenius 1 supports a range of school partnerships that enable pupils, students and staff from across Europe to work together on joint projects. Comenius 2 provides European in-service training for staff involved in school education and opportunities for trainee and intending teachers. It also provides the opportunity to develop teaching resources. Comenius 3 supports European networks of organisations involved in Comenius that share expertise and good practice. Born in what is today the Czech Republic, Joan Amos Comenius (1592-1670) was an educator who worked for peace and unity between nations.
