Governor Support and Development at Walsall Children’s Services Welcome to the Governor Support and Development Team page.

This section aims to support governing bodies in their many and varied responsibilities.

What do governors do?

Governors have three critical roles in helping schools to improve their educational standards;

  • Providing a strategic overview
  • Being the critical friend
  • Ensuring accountability.
  • How can Walsall Children’s Services help you?
  • Walsall Children’s Services provides a comprehensive governor support and development package.This includes;

  • The Governor Development Programme, including:- Borough-wide programme;- Cluster group training organised by the cluster and delivered through Walsall Children’s Services, by agreement on request;- Individual school training on request for schools in Special Measures or
    approaching an OFSTED inspection.
  • Clerks' training and briefings
  • Chairs' briefings
  • The Walsall Governor, normally sent to individual governors' home addresses
  • Telephone advice to individual governing bodies on specific issues on which they request advice.
  • A governors' library
  • A governors' self-evaluation package.
  • The service is available on a Service Level Agreement basis.
