Introduction

Welcome to the extended services toolkit, this toolkit is intended to give an overview of extended services and answer some of the frequently asked questions, the toolkit can be read in its entirety or alternatively you could pick up sections as and when the need arises for further guidance or information.  Extended Services are key to the delivery of the governments Children’s Plan, alongside Children’s Centres extended services work directly with families, parents and children to offer them access to a variety of services.  Schools are not however expected to work alone in delivering this extended provision.  There are many local providers who already provide quality services and would be more than willing to work with schools in delivering what is needed.

An extended school recognises that it cannot work alone in helping children and young people to achieve their potential, and therefore decides to work in partnership with other agencies that have an interest in outcomes for children and young people, and with the local community. ‘In doing so, consistent with workforce reform and remodelling, it aims to help meet not only the school’s objectives, but also to share in helping to meet the wider needs of children, young people, families and their community.’Comment from a Head teacherTaken from the TDA Extended Schools: Building on Experience publication

Whether the school decides to work with other providers or to establish new provision there are inevitably some reoccurring questions, this toolkit is designed to help with some of those questions, to help you in your schools and local clusters to provide quality extended services, If you are unable to find the answer in this toolkit please get in touch with the Extended Services Team so they can help with your enquiry.
