I am Vicky Portman, Environmental Education Officer for Street Pride at Walsall Council. My role is to deliver an effective education service across the community of Walsall, to raise awareness and encourage understanding of environmental issues. I offer visits to schools to help children understand the importance of recycling and caring for their environment. My power point presentation covers all aspects of the environment, from what happens to our rubbish when it goes in the wheelie bin, through to littering, fly posting and graffiti. I can also support schools in the Eco Schools programme. The Eco schools scheme is rooted in a genuine desire to help children become more effective citizens by encouraging them to take responsibility for the future of their own environment. It is not about environmental excellence, it is about schools starting to look at how it impacts upon the environment and how this is decided upon and can be managed. Walsall have to achieve recycling targets set by the Government, through education in schools we can hope that children will take the recycling message home and encourage their parents to use the recycling boxes given to them and help us reach our waste minimisation goals. I can be contacted on 01922 652125 or by email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it |
