Best Ever Key Stage 2 Results

Walsall’s primary school pupils have achieved the Borough’s best ever results in English, maths and science!

78% of pupils have achieved level 4+ in English, 75% in mathematics and 86% in science.  In science Walsall has improved by a staggering 3% from last year in comparison to 1% nationally.

Tony Stainer, managing director for Walsall Children’s Services  said “We are absolutely delighted that our pupils have achieved so well this year.  It is wonderful that the hard work of young people, parents and teachers has been rewarded with such excellent Key Stage 2 results. The success of these young people should be celebrated.”

Walsall continues to close the gap nationally with the rate of improvement since 2003 being higher than the national rate in all subjects.  In English Walsall has improved by 7% compared to 5% nationally, in maths by 10% compared to 5% nationally and in science by 5% compared to 2% nationally.

Walsall’s overall ranking on the total of all three subjects has also improved and is now ranked 98th  out of 150 local authorities compared to 128th in 2003.  Based on improvement from 2003 to 2007 Walsall is ranked 5th most improved authority.

This year’s key stage two results place Walsall in line with statistical neighbours in English and 2% above in maths and science.

Councillor Zahid Ali, cabinet member for children’s services said “We are continually working hard in Walsall to achieve these excellent results. Year on year significant progress is being made in ensuring that our young people get the best possible education.  Everyone is to be congratulated on these results.”
