About Us - Education Walsall

Walsall Children’s Services is the name given to the organisation working in partnership with Walsall Council in managing education services in Walsall. Walsall Children’s Services is part of a private company, Serco Group plc, which is a British firm that manages a wide variety of businesses across the world and employs around 40,000 people.

In July 2001, Serco was contracted by the council to manage school improvement and strategic management for five years. At this time, around 100 members of council staff transferred to Serco. The shared education services were called Walsall Education, covering both the council-managed part and the Serco-managed part.

In October 2002, the Council transferred the majority of the remaining education functions to Serco and a close working partnership was established with the council. The new wider contract started on 1 January 2003 and a further 300 staff transferred from the council to Serco.
