How can the Education Welfare Officer help me?

Education Welfare Officers can arrange meeting with you at school, at their offices or at home to discuss concerns which you have about your child’s school attendance. They can advise you about a range of support for you and for your child and make the necessary referrals to the appropriate services e.g. Child & Family Clinic, Childrens Social Work, Home Tuition Service and Family Services Unit. The Job of the Education Welfare Officer is to work with schools, parents and pupils to make sure that the pupil is able to benefit from education provision.
