Walsall Children's Services Secondary Curriculum and Strategic Partnerships Team

Aims

Standards at Key Stage 3, 4 and 5 have risen since 2004 and the number of NEETs has reduced, however the gap between young people in Walsall and nationally must be narrowed and this is the key focus of the team’s work, ensuring that there are appropriate pathways and high quality learning and teaching to enable progression.

Main areas of responsibility

  • Advise and support schools and other partners on strategies for increasing learning and employability opportunities for young people in secondary schools and across curriculum and strategic partnerships.
  • Advise and support schools and other partners on the changes required for the new National Curriculum and accreditation.
  • Work with a wide range of partners, including schools, Chairs of Collaboratives/Partnerships, LSC, Walsall College, Connexions, EBP, representatives of training providers, employers, HE and other relevant agencies/partners to improve outcomes for all young people in Walsall through:
  • a reduction in the number of NEETs;
  • an increase in the number of curriculum partnerships;
  • an increase in learning and employment opportunities;
  • a broader curriculum offer, including access to more vocational courses; and
  • enhanced Information, Advice and Guidance.
  • Facilitate the development of learning networks, partnerships and collaboratives to encourage schools and their partners to share resources and good practice to plan and deliver the Government agenda with entitlement curriculum 11-19 and 14-19 specialisation and choice including access to diploma and vocational opportunities by 2013.
  • Ensure the delivery, monitoring and reporting of the Government 14-19 Progress checks, the LSC requirements and the Black Country Enjoy and Achieve Plan.

    Maintain an overview of the use of relevant Standards Funds and other funding streams for 14-19 implementation
